Perfect indoor climate comfort for learning environments

When it comes to education, creating a good indoor climate is essential for positive learning. If a classroom is heated evenly, and an ideal temperature is maintained, pupils will feel more comfortable and be able to concentrate more easily.

Particular requirements for heating in educational settings

Low Surface Temperature (LST) radiators are a perfect heating solution in schools, and they meet NHS Estates Health Guidance Notes and the Education (School Premises) Regulations.

Myson’s LST radiators are available in both horizontal and vertical configurations. They come with a safety-conscious round-edged casing which eliminates sharp edges and conceals pipework, and they are finished in an anti-bacterial coating for additional hygiene.

Classic panel radiators and column radiators are also a great choice because they are efficient and quickly react to rapidly changing heat demands. They offer a wide variety of heights, outputs, colours and styles to match the interior. For example, Vertical radiators are ideal where wall space is limited, and flat profile models like Myson Plan and Kos V are easy to keep clean, making them more hygienic.

What about heating in school renovations?

In schools that are switching to a low temperature heating system, it is important that when the heat source is updated or replaced, the radiators are also reviewed to ensure they provide sufficient heat with lower flow temperatures. Panel radiators and fan-assisted radiators are still a great choice, but fan convectors and underfloor heating are becoming more popular. Not only are these options ideal for low temperature systems, making them highly efficient and eco-friendly, but they also free up wall space. Underfloor heating operates with a large surface area distributing gentle heat, and the system adapts to internal heat gains, minimising energy waste and preventing overheating.

Any school heating refurbishment needs to meet the particular requirements inherent to the building. In addition, it needs to be energy efficient in order to keep the school’s operating costs in check. The right emitters combined with fast and reliable controls will ensure the best system response to meet rapidly changing heat demands.

Keeping it cool in school

While sufficient heating is essential to guarantee the students’ comfort, it is also important to be able to cool down the classroom. Heat generated by occupants in combination with direct solar radiation coming in through the windows can really drive up the temperature.

Although window ventilation provides some cooling, in most cases mechanical cooling is required. Myson recommends using a ceiling cooling system which cools efficiently, as the cold air drops and spreads evenly throughout the room. The Myson iVector S2 is a perfect solution because it offers both heating and cooling (when combined with a reversible heat pump or separate cooling source). The units are whisper quiet and can be ceiling or wall mounted, or fully recessed.

The optional Auto Remote controls up to 30 iVector S2 units, which is ideal for areas such as assembly rooms, dining rooms, and reception areas where several fan convectors can be managed centrally via a single remote control.
